Then & Now 1861: Lots of news for local readers

The following blurb were culled from the March 28, 1861 edition of the weekly "Oneida Sachem", which later became the "Oneida Daily Dispatch":

"The latest intelligence from California renders probable the existence of a dis-union conspiracy among Southern officers of the army there, in concert with a gang of desperate adventurers calling themselves “Knights of the Golden Circle.” The loyalty of the mass of people, however, is said to be proof against the machinations of the traitors."
