150 Years Ago….

This week’s column is one that was nearly overlooked in its significance in its relation to last week’s column regarding the advertisement published by the Little Rock Arsenal on the selling of surplus arms and ammunitions and other impliments of war. This week 150 years ago in Arkansas, it is imperative to keep in consideration the overall plan of the Knights of the Golden Circle in waging a war in Mexico.
Though not exactly directly related to the impending Civil War less than a year down the road, the Knights of the Golden Circle, nonetheless, are attempting to spread into Mexico and into Central and South America for the valuable resources that will benifit the Southern States. Today’s primary source shows troop movements, still, into Texas for this purpose:

Another Filibustering Band.—The mysterious order of “The Tambourines” is attracting attention at San Antonio and Austin, Texas, where they have obtained strongholds. It seems to be a fighting order and squint at Mexico. The Intelligencer says that armed bodies of men arrive and disappear suddenly in Austin.
