Have you seen the History Channel show, Brad Meltzer's Decoded? There was an episode of the show that came on at the end of December about hunting for buried gold. Legend has it that the Confederates amassed a fortune in gold and treasure and buried it with the goal of using it later to fund an insurrection to get the South out of the Union.

How I wish that I could get Brad Meltzer to read my novel, ADAM'S TREASURE. What treasure was Adam searching for in my book? Why, the exact same Confederate gold featured in the TV show!
If you get a chance to watch that show, you will find it fascinating that the Knights of the Golden Circle was a secret society formed to protect the gold. Rumor has it that the society still exists. Hmm, maybe?
So, if you like this topic, check out ADAM'S TREASURE, and read a fictional account of how it could have turned out.

The Bohemian Grove, Freemasonry and Albert Pike
The Bohemian Grove and Satan Worship
During a recent episode of Brad Meltzer's Decoded the crew, along with radio personality Alex Jones, investigate activities at the Bohemian Grove on the Russian River in Northern California. Jones claims that the Bohemians, an exclusive membership, are plotting the takeover of the world. About ten years ago he infiltrates the grove and records some of their antics. The Bohemians perform a ceremony that is pagan in nature and pays homage to the image of an owl, with leaders of the ritual dressing in “Druidic” robes and carrying torches. The Decoded group tries to sneak in from the river, but they are spotted and two are arrested.
The important issue here is that the Bohemians, who occupy positions of importance in government, business and academia perform a pagan ritual that demonstrates a willful repudiation of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In the Old Testament, God punishes Israel for worship of false images in the groves. The United States which is governed secularly is still a Christian nation. Most believe in the monotheistic God of the Bible. It is interesting that the elite of the nation do not. Why would this be the case? Saint Paul declares, “For the love of money is the root of all evil,” (1Ti6:10) and these guys are real lovers of money.
In an earlier episode Meltzer studies symbolism in the Statue of Liberty. Some claim that the Lucifer, which more of less means light giver, is symbolized with the torch. They consult an expert who says that it does represent Lucifer, but only in this literal translation, meant to lionize the Enlightenment. However, according to the Catholic Church, Lucifer, Satan and The Devil are the same entity. So, this shows another rejection of God and the total acceptance of the love of money doctrine.
Then there is Freemasonry. Some assert that this is a religion and I suspect that most Masons are God fearing men and would in no way consider nature or devil worship. However, if Freemasonry is a religion then Albert Pike is the equivalent of Saint Paul. His writings define its doctrine, at least for the Southern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite. Pike is an interesting fellow. He is a disciple of Eliphas Levi, a nineteenth century Satanist, and is an influential member of the Knights of the Golden Circle and the Ku Klux Klan, and is a general in charge of intelligence for the Confederacy. None of this cloaks him in righteousness. Most Masons do not realize that many of their rituals are Satanic, but they are and the elite of this group knows it.
As most people see in their daily lives and work, devil worshipers rule this nation. The symbolism of the power elite testifies to it and is there for all to see if one is willing to open one's eyes.

Lt. Dixon, the SCV and the KGC
The Lt. George E. Dixon- SCV Camp No. 1962 now has an associate membership for the Knights of the Golden Circle.
Excerpts: "There are two levels of membership in the Lt. George E. Dixon Camp # 1962: Membership into the Sons of Confederate Veterans: SCV membership is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces....
Membership into the Knights of the Golden Circle: This is an associate membership for people who cannot qualify for membership in the SCV, but still have an interest in Confederate history and want to participate in the activities of the camp....."
"Who are the Knights of the Golden Circle?
The original Knights of the Golden Circle were men dedicated to helping extend the Republic of Texas westward. It became an organization of those who supported Southern ideals and the Southern Cause against the Union and consisted of people from both North and South. Most worked clandestinely to try and help the South by providing information, supplies, equipment, interfere with Union recruiting, etc. They were often tracked down and prosecuted for their pro-Southern sentiments. We adopted the name for those who were interested in history and helping the camp persue our goals and activities. The Knights and Ladies of the Golden Circle are people who otherwise do not qualify to belong to the SCV but want to be part of what we are doing. They can participate in everything we do as a camp, but have limited input on SCV specific activities and cannot hold a position as a camp officer. We welcome everyone to belong to the camp through the Knights and Ladies of the Golden Circle who have an interest but do not qualify to join the National SCV organization."
Who was Lt. George E. Dixon?
Lt. George E. Dixon, the namesake of our camp, was 25-26 years of age, height 5' 9", a young and athletic man with sandy blond hair. Though he was originally believed to have been born in Kentucky, Doug Owsley, the forensic expert from the Smithsonian, believes Dixon was most likely born in the mid-west, possibly Ohio. He was a man of at least some wealth as indicated by the gold fillings found in his teeth, his diamond studded jewelry and an ornate gold watch he carried in his pocket. Thus far, Dixon's history can be traced to 1860 when he was a steamboat engineer traveling the Mississippi River between St. Louis and Cincinnati, Ohio.
When the Civil War began, Dixon was in Mobile, Alabama. For the first years of the war, he became a part of the Mobile Community and even joined the local Masonic lodge. Dixon joined the Mobile Grays, a local police force. In October of 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was assigned to the 21st Alabama Volunteer Regiment. He was wounded at Shiloh but was spared more serious injury or even death when the mini-ball hit a Twenty Dollar Gold Coin. His fiancé Queenie Belle had given him the coin when he left for war. After being wounded at Shiloh, Dixon returned to Mobile and became involved with the development and construction of theH. L. Hunley. After it sank with Horace Hunley aboard in 1863, Lt. Dixon convinced General Beauregard to allow him to take command the submarine and use it to help break the Union blockade of Charleston.

Men of Quantrill
Men of Quantrill
Written by: Col Jesse W. James aka Col. J. Frank Dalton
When the civil war was over,
and the south laid down her arms,
They came back to their wives and sweethearts,
To their villages and farms.
Quantrill’s men were classed as criminals,
They had not been mustered in.
To the Regular Southern Armies,
A known band of outlawed men.
Hunted down and shot like Wild Things,
Like Coyote, Wolf or Bear.
Chased from one state to another,
Hunted, hounded everywhere.
Not a crime so dark or fiendish,
Not an act so mean or low,
But t’was charged to men of Quantrill,
Yes, it must be them you know.
And when the war was over,
And they scattered o’er the land,
Here and there arose a rumor of men who did lay low,
Careful what you speak, he’s was a Quantrill man you know.
Some were chased and killed or captured,
Others ran and hid away,
But it’s time the truth was spoken,
They are feeble, old, and gray.
Let us tell a simple story,
How they fought to shield their home,
From the thugs and border ruffians,
They had to fight alone.
Some made good while other didn’t
Some gained wealth and honor too.
Others took the Hoot Owl trail,
There was little else to do.
But no matter what their station,
Or how well they became renown.
The cloud of “65” was present,
And their names were not their own.
But the secret was well guarded,
By the men who knew them well.
Quantrill’s oath took care of that,
“WHAT YOU KNOW DON’T EVER TELL.”

Elements That Leave You Shaking Your Head
The treasure hunting (and I'll include gold mining here) community is, by and large, composed of some of the most honest, decent, helpful, and down-to-earth people you'll ever come across. For example, my contact with readers of "Treasure Trove Dreams" and my mining blog "Bedrock Dreams" via e-mail, comments, and phone calls has been about 98.5% positive in total.
But just as it is in life as a whole, you do run across those elements that leave you shaking your head slowly from side-to-side in either disgust or wonderment. The folks that trigger this sort of reaction in me (and probably in you as well) invariably fall into a range of less-than-desirable types that can include everything from BS artists and hustlers to my favorites, treasure-hunting whack jobs, true believers, and assorted oddities and oddballs.
Implied Threats are Not Common...
Let me give you an example. Just yesterday I received an anonymous comment on a post about Jesse James and Knights of the golden Circle (KGC) troves from an obvious whack job that went something like this: "You're playing with fire here. Don't think you aren't being watched either."
Implied threats like this one are not all that common, but I will tell you that it's not the first one I've ever received. Interestingly enough though, most of the more threatening comments I've received deal with large or very well-known treasure legends or troves, including the lost Dutchman Mine, Oak Island, and the ever popular James Boys and KGC.
Potentially Violent People Out There
Typically I will publish each and every comment sent me including those that disagree with my assumptions or conclusions. The only time I won't publish a comment is if it contains nothing but 4-letter epithets or is overtly threatening. I refuse to give air time to whack jobs and fruitcakes...sorry. (Interestingly enough, the few threats I've received via "Treasure Trove Dreams" are always in comment form...these cowards never use an e-mail that can be traced. Surprise, surprise.)
That said, I feel it's important for all of you to realize that treasure hunting is not all about peace, love, and cashing in your "goodies." There are unstable, angry, paranoid, and even potentially violent people out there who think a given trove or treasure is theirs and theirs alone and they will stop at nothing to "protect" it. Hell bells folks, people have actually been killed or turned up missing in these sorts of contexts, the Lost Dutchman Mine legend being a classic example of how this happens.
What Has All This to Do With You?
Another sort of mini-crazy out there is the secretive, paranoid type that implies he or she is tied in with some huge conspiracy or network (a.k.a., secret society). I'd put the nut that sent me the comment yesterday in this category and it's easy to see why. By the way, I've gotten more than half a dozen of these paranoid/conspiracy, implied threat type comments since I started writing and publishing "Treasure Trove Dreams."
You're probably asking what all this has to do with you? The great majority of you out there are highly intelligent people who can figure that out on your own. For those of you who have a harder time deciphering things, the answer is simple my friends:
"Crazy is as crazy does..."
Peace out and good hunting to you.

Rebel Treasure And The K.G.C.
The Knights of the Golden Circle was an American secret society organized in the South in 1855 to promote slavery and to extend it, particularly into northern Mexico. Later, during the American Civil War, the society spread to Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana and also functioned in the border states of Kentucky and Missouri. During the war, the Northern members pressed for peace and for reducing the increasing powers of the federal government. Public charges were made that the Northern groups were engaged in treasonable activities such as spying and planning armed insurrections against the Union. In 1863 the organization was renamed the Order of the American Knights, and early in 1864 the group was reorganized as the Sons of Liberty under the leadership of the American politician Clement Laird Vallandigham. In 1864 the membership reached a maximum, estimated to be between 200,000 and 300,000. Some of the members interfered with the Union war effort chiefly by hindering enlistments in the Union army and encouraging desertions from it. It was during this time period that the Knights of the Golden Circle began to bury large amounts of gold and silver. They also began to stockpile weapons in secret locations.
Many of the smaller caches have been moved to larger, combined caches, and as a result, many of the legends will end up leading to an empty hole. For this reason, it is best to acquire information on as many as possible, research them in advance, and pick the most likely ones out before going out into the field. Whenever a K.G.C. cache was emptied or moved by the K.G.C., additional symbols were placed on the stone markers to alert fellow members that the cache was no longer there. By examining photos of known markers, it is possible to determine which caches are worth going after, and which are long gone.
K.G.C. researchers talk about needing a series of two or three transparent overlays in order to make any sense out of the K.G.C. maps. This is not true. When K.G.C. operatives buried some of the larger caches, they marked them with several stones having symbols cut into them as directions. The markings were accurately inscribed with the help of these so-called "overlays." In reality, the "overlays" were tracings, taken from each stone and transferred to the next stone, made onto the semi-transparent oil cloth material of their "slickers" (raincoats). To relocate the cache, all overlays would be placed and aligned (according to specific instructions) over the "key" stone to produce a very specific map. Losing the overlays made no difference, since they were made from the markings on the stone in the first place, they could be easily reconstructed in a matter of minutes once the original stone was found.
"It is said that no records exist of the K.G.C. after 1916." The locations of all the smaller caches (and larger ones too) were recorded on maps. Each map was rolled up and put into a cylinder made from rabbit fur treated with cosmoline. This tube was then tarred, and finally waxed with bees' wax.
"The maps from all the caches in a particular surrounding area were then sealed in a safe or chest and buried near a large or well-known river." Sixteen such safes exist throughout the country, each containing the maps for a specific area. Each safe (chest) was buried on a pillar of criss-crossed railroad ties to prevent it from sinking into the ground.
"One "master" safe contains the maps showing the location of each of the other sixteen safes." Should the location of the "master" safe be lost, the locations of the other safes could be determined from a carefully worked out code using letters of the alphabet in conjunction with the Confederate code. It is possible that the contents of the "master" safe may no longer be retrievable. If so, the job is only made tougher, not impossible.
It is a well-established fact that over twenty million dollars in jewels, rare artifacts and precious metals have been recovered from cleverly concealed Spanish treasure vaults by latter-day treasure hunters. What is more astonishing is that it is estimated that there are billions still awaiting discovery in places where it requires only the patience and time to be recovered. Reading and studying is only the first step to being able to make a big discovery.
Far too many treasure hunters spend thousands of dollars in fruitless efforts simply because they fail to first nail down their quarry, and because they never learn the proper methods for interpreting and understanding the Spanish and K.G.C. symbology. Research and knowledge of the signs and symbols remain the only keys to success for the serious treasure hunter. Some say it's senseless to even consider a search for a lost mine or K.G.C. location unless its existence can be verified by either, (1) church or courthouse records, personal diaries or waybills, or documents stored in various archives, or (2) the actual discovery and correct interpretation of ancient Spanish and K.G.C. symbology in places where Spanish mining operations or a K.G.C. location are known to have existed. When either of these conditions prevail it becomes very important that the correct interpretation of the documents or symbols be arrived at. Since incorrect interpretations will provide nothing but mind-boggling frustration, extensive loss of time, and eventual failure for the weary treasure hunter.
The three steps are- learn the meanings of the Spanish and K.G.C. signs and symbols and the correct way to apply those meanings when interpreting them. Research any records or other evidence that will help establish the existence of the treasure. Patience's is the secret of success. Untold wealth could be within inches of your grasp...

What You Didn't Know About John Wilkes Booth & Jesse James
- by Mark Owen
The outlaw Jesse Woodson James killed the actor John Wilkes Booth at the Grand Avenue Hotel in Enid, Oklahoma in 1903 after Booth continually reneged on his oath to never talk about his secret membership in the Masonic-oriented Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) and to never mention the murder of Abraham Lincoln.
John Wilkes Booth did not die in Garrett’s tobacco barn in 1865 as is commonly supposed. Booth was saved by his brother Knights and spirited immediately down into Texas after the assassination. He lived and worked for many years in Granbury under the alias ‘John St. Helen.’
His own granddaughter Izola Forrester affirmed in her 1937 book This One Mad Act that Booth had been aided and abetted in his escape from Washington by the KGC. It was common knowledge in the Booth family that he never died in the barn.
The man shot and killed in Garrett’s barn was James Boyd, a former confederate agent working for the War Department. He bore a passing resemblance to Booth aside from his red hair and moustache. Booth’s hair was jet black and he had shaved off his moustache at the home of Dr. Samuel Mudd shortly after escaping from Washington.
Not a single friend of Booth was called to the inquest to identify the body. A Washington doctor named John May had removed a tumor from Booth’s neck several months prior to the Lincoln assassination and was summoned to view the corpse. When the blanket covering the body was removed May stated, ‘There is no resemblance in that corpse to Booth, nor can I believe it to be him.’ May later changed his statement to conform with the official proclamation that Booth had been captured and killed.
National Detective Police agents Andrew & Luther Potter had been on the trail of Booth from the beginning. They were called in to identify the corpse. When the blanket was removed they commented, ‘He sure grew a moustache in a hurry. Red, too.’
Each of the 26 detectives that worked on the case received several thousand dollars apiece after signing quitclaims, stating that they had no further interest in the case. This was a big payday 150 years ago.
In 1922 two Civil War veterans swore an affidavit stating that the body removed from the Garrett farm was not Booth. Joseph Zeigen and Wilson Kenzie said that they had served with the cavalry troop which had surrounded the barn. The man dragged from the barn wore a Confederate uniform and on his feet were yellow brogans, the service footgear of Johnny Reb. The two veterans were sworn to secrecy.
There are other testimonies that can be recited, each refuting government lies.
In reality, John Wilkes Booth was taken to Texas immediately after the assassination where he lived and worked for many years under the alias of John St. Helen.
In 1872 St. Helen was operating a distillery in Glen Rose, Texas where he ran afoul of revenue agents over whiskey taxes. He hired attorney Finis Bates to represent him. Bates, the grandfather of Hollywood actress Kathy Bates (Fried Green Tomatoes, Misery etc.), would later write a book about his friendship with St. Helen.
One day after contracting a virulent flu, St. Helen was sure that he was going to die and called Bates to his bedside wherein he confessed that he was not John St. Helen at all, but rather John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of Abraham Lincoln. Bates was highly sceptical until St. Helen gave him a photograph of himself for future identification purposes. After making a full recovery from his ailments St. Helen begged Bates to hold his confession in strict confidence.
Bates would later remark in his book how St. Helen could recite long passages of Shakespeare from memory and how he was such a remarkable and gifted raconteur.
After several years the two drifted apart with Bates relocating to Memphis and St. Helen later surfacing in Enid Oklahoma under the alias David George.
Booth’s heavy drinking combined with his continual boasting of exploits within the KGC eventually brought him to the attention of Jesse James. This was particularly so when Booth was ‘in his cups,’ which was more often than not, according to friends in Enid. It was also reported that Booth regularly partook of laudanum, an opium derivative. This is when he would become particularly verbose.
Again we have to rewind...
The outlaw Jesse James was not killed by Bob Ford in 1882. Jesse faked his death as an expedient way to throw off Pinkerton agents, assorted railroad barons, gun fighters trying to establish their bona fides and the dozens of bounty hunters scouring the country for James in order to claim the various rewards offered for his capture. He and Ford would go on to be partners in many business ventures spanning decades. James operated under more than 50 aliases in his long life before dying at the advanced age of 107 under the alias J. Frank Dalton in 1951 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Jesse was a 33rd degree Freemason and a high-ranking Knight of the Golden Circle.
The KGC evolved from a Scottish secret group known as The Society of the Horseman’s Word, otherwise known as the Horse Whisperers. This fraternity recited passages from the Bible backwards and practised folk magic as part of their rituals, in addition to having Masonic-style oaths. Headquarters for the Knights of the Golden Circle was 814 Fatherland Dr. in Nashville. This was the home of KGC operative Frank James, elder brother of Jesse James. Years later it became the Dixie Tabernacle, original home of the Grand Ole Opry.
The KGC claimed 200,000 members all over America during the war. All of the men in Lincoln’s cabinet were Knights, save for Lincoln. The KGC was heavily financed by the London and Paris Rothschild brothers. Their goal was to foment as much chaos and discord as possible in order to keep the country divided and to usher in a Rothschild-owned central bank.
But Lincoln had his own plans. During his presidency his 50% tariff jump-started the American steel industry, while his railroads, subsidies for mining, free land for farmers and free state colleges transformed a bankrupt cotton-exporting country into the world’s greatest industrial power within 25 years. Lincoln knew that he was waging a separate but equally brutal war against Rothschild-dominated Wall St. firms with his attempt at reasserting government control of credit. He put through anti-usury and other strict banking laws, sold bonds directly to the people and issued hundreds of millions of national currency.
With these reforms The Great Emancipator had signed his own death warrant.
Lincoln knew that his time was short. He confided to his bodyguard Ward Lamont a week before he was killed that he had a vision of his own death.
But there were powerful people that believed in him.
During the Civil War Lincoln negotiated a pact with Czar Alexander of Russia whereby the Russian Navy was sent into the ports of San Francisco and New York to help block the Rothschild ships that were running armaments to the South. After the appearance of the Russian ships in American waters the Rothschilds cancelled contracts to build more blockade running boats. The Czar won the day for the North as Russia promised to go to war with any nation that attacked America. One of the ships anchored in New York Harbor was the Russian frigate Osliaba. Harpers Weekly carried drawings of the ship in one of its 1863 issues. Civil War photographer Mathew Brady took numerous photographs of the Russian ships. And on October 5, 1863 the city of Baltimore issued a proclamation thanking the Czar for his assistance. In 1867 when the war ended and Lincoln was dead, President Andrew Johnson received a bill in the amount of $7.2 million for the rental of the Russian fleet. The Constitution forbids giving tax dollars to any foreign nation for any reason whatever except for the purchase of land. Johnson directed Secretary of State William Seward to purchase Alaska from the Russians for $7.2 million. These details of ‘Seward’s Folly’ have been excised from the historical record. This is because Imperial Russia was the only European country without a central bank. They were the greatest foes of the Rothschild Syndicate. Also, since the time of the Empress Elizabeth, Russian Jews had been confined to an area known as the Pale of Settlement. Jews could not live beyond the Pale. Long ago attempts were made to remove all Jews from Russia entirely unless they converted to the Orthodox Church. The Pale of Settlement was the next best solution. The Rothshchilds underwrote the Bolshevic Revolution of 1917. The murder of Czar Nicholas and his family was their revenge for the treatment of their co-religionists in times past and for daring to stand against the inauguration of a Rothschild dominated central bank.
And the Rothschilds also underwrote the financing of the Knights of the Golden Circle.
Their gold and dollars were laundered through a Montreal bank by Rothschild asset and Confederate Secretary of State, Judah Benjamin, ‘the brains of the revolt.’ Benjamin was running so many Confederate spies out of Montreal that it was known as ‘the second Richmond.’ Benjamin was very wealthy and owned a sugar plantation manned by 140 slaves. After the war he fled Richmond and eventually wound up in London, England where he made a very comfortable living as a Queen’s Counsel. It is difficult to get data on Benjamin as he burned his personal notes so frequently that one historian referred to him as a ‘virtual incendiary.’ At his death he left 6 scraps of paper. He left no articles or essays on his role in the Civil War. Although he did pen a letter to the Times of London in 1883 refuting charges that millions of Confederate dollars were left in European banks under his control. After the Lincoln assassination police found decoding sheets in Booth's Washington hotel room. A matching coding device was found in Benjamin's Richmond office.
Returning to John St. Helen/David George/John Wilkes Booth...
Jesse James was the treasurer and comptroller in sole possession of all gold & silver bullion and money of the Knights of the Golden Circle. In this capacity he paid Booth an annual pension of $3600 with the proviso that Booth honor his KGC oath of secrecy and never talk about their activities or the Lincoln assassination. He and other Knights repeatedly warned Booth to curb his loose tongue, but to no avail....
Jesse had no choice but to silence his Lodge Brother.
Jesse tracked Booth to the Grand Hotel in Enid one winter evening in 1903. Jesse made Booth drink a large glass of lemonade laced with a copious quantity of arsenic. Booth drank the lemonade and quickly expired. Jesse scattered many of Booth’s papers around the corpse for easy identification. He then went down to the hotel lobby and gave the manager a gold coin and asked him to look in on his friend David George in the morning, as George was feeling ill.
The next day the press had a field day. The story exploded. Thousands of reporters came to Enid from all over the country to report the death of John Wilkes Booth.
Booth’s body was taken to a mortuary across the street from the hotel that was owned by WB Penniman. Many people identified the corpse as Booth including a retired couple named Harper whom Booth had confided in.
Penniman embalmed the body and coated it with Vaseline. The arsenic went a long way to preserving the skin. Booth’s attorney Finis Bates read the press reports in Memphis and hastened to Enid where he identified the body as that of his former friend John St. Helen aka John Wilkes Booth. A funeral trade journal in 1909 stated that within a few weeks the corpse had ‘the drawn and tanned look of an old mummy.’
Penniman laid Booth out in his mortuary and charged curiosity seekers 10 cents a peek. Tourists viewing the corpse would steal the collar buttons and sometimes remove locks of hair for souvenirs. One intrepid visitor tried to sever one of the mummy’s ears with a pocket knife.
But when the drawing power of the Booth mummy waned Penniman handed over the body to Finis Bates who had claimed it from the very beginning. Later on, Bates rented out the body to carnivals and sideshows.
The corpse travelled for years as part of a show featuring freaks and strange animals. It even emerged unscathed from a circus train wreck that killed eight people. At one point the mummy was even kidnapped and ransomed. In 1931 it turned up in Chicago where a group of doctors performed an autopsy and took an x-ray and pronounced its Booth-like injuries authentic. In 1932 a couple named Harkin bought the mummy and displayed it from the back of their truck. Hecklers would sometimes claim that the mummy was made out of wax, but Mrs. Harkin silenced them by rolling the mummy over and opening a flap on its back that had been cut away during the original autopsy. The mummy wore nothing but khaki shorts and between shows Mrs. Harkin would lacquer the skin with Vaseline and comb its hair.
Some wag declared that John Wilkes Booth was back in show business.....
The mummy vanished from the public eye in the 1950s.

With these reforms The Great Emancipator had signed his own death warrant.

DNA Test for John Wilkes Booth?
THE KONFORMIST BLOG
THE BLOG DEDICATED TO REBELLION, KONSPIRACY & SUBVERSION
http://robalini.blogspot.com/2011/01/dna-test-for-john-wilkes-booth.html
Meanwhile, another conspiracy theory has been gaining currency in the mainstream media, this one slightly of historical importance, even if it covers events nearly 150 years old. Specifically, it's the idea that John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of Abraham Lincoln, didn't die twelve days after the murder but instead lived another 38 years.
Granted, this theory isn't completely new: it was powerfully presented in the 1975 book Jesse James Was One of His Names, by Del Schrader & Jesse James III. The book's text used to be available online for free, but alas no more. You can get a copy of the book on CD for $39.99 by contacting L.K. Shick by email or snail mail:

Some of you may be confused by the title of this book. After all, just what the hell does Jesse James have to do with the Lincoln Assassination? (And for you younger readers out there, the Jesse James we're referring to here is the Wild West outlaw, not the dude who cheated on Sandra Bullock with a bunch of skanky whores.)
Well, to give a Cliff Notes version of the theory, the Lincoln Assassination was part of a bigger operation, involving the Knights of the Golden Circle, a secret society that essentially was the spy network for the Southern Confederacy. Apparently, James was a member, and his bank robberies were fund-raising activities for the Confederate underground. Another alleged member of the Golden Circle was Booth, and thus the slaying of Lincoln was a job done by the Southern intelligence apparatus. JWB's death was faked and he was given a cover identity as a reward for his deed.
(As a side note, two leaders of the Golden Circle were "respectable" Mason Albert Pike and Bedford Forrest, the man who inspired the first name of Tom Hanks' retarded Oscar winner. The same two men founded the Ku Klux Klan. It can then be argued the KKK evolved from remnants of hardcore racists and confederates within the Golden Circle.)
This theory has been covered pretty well on the Internet, though it's a bit hard to find now. Brian Redman of Conspiracy Nation (now called Melchizedek Communique, found at http://www.shout.net/~bigred/cn.html ) did postings on it in 1999, but they're not to be found on his Website now. Dave McGowan of Davesweb.cnchost.com also wrote about it in 2003, and this led to his inclusion in the "bonus" documentary found on the National Treasure: Book of Secrets DVD. I had a little something to do with that, as I was unavailable to be interviewed for the DVD, but recommended McGowan for the DVD based on his interest in the subject. McGowan tells the behind-the-scenes story of the interview in this funny post:
http://davesweb.cnchost.com/nwsltr92.html
In case you didn't see the movie (or the documentary, which has aired on the Discovery Channel by itself) the Golden Circle as the mastermind of the Lincoln Assassination is central to the movie's plot.
Well, along comes a new TV show, the most excellent Brad Meltzer's Decoded on the History Channel ( http://www.history.com/shows/brad-meltzers-decoded ) and they decided to investigate the angle of whether Booth actually died or faked his death. Along the way, they learned of the grave for Edwin Booth, JWB's brother. DNA from his corpse could be compared to the vertebrae of the alleged JWB killed in 1865 found at the National Museum of Health and Medicine to settle the issue once and for all. For some reason, the National Museum of Health and Medicine is fighting this. But the DNA test has some strong supporters including historian Nate Orlowek: "If the man who killed our greatest president got away and a giant hoax was perpetrated on the American people, then we should know about it."

From the Civil War Letters of Pvt (US) H. Talbert
Excerpt: "The Knights of the Golden Circle has long been talked of in this State and I have always been fearful that they would some day rise up against us but I hope our Army will be successful ... keep the cowardly K.G.C. at bay."
Calhoun Mo
January the 6th 1863
Dear Brother Alpheus
This evening finds me again Seated in my lonely Tent, No other Companion to cheer except the Stove which has been a very exceptible partner for the last day or two. For the last 8 or ten days it has been raining considerable but last night it turned cold and to day feels like Winter for the first since Nov. Times are very quiet, Nothing going on to create excitement but hearty wishes are daily heard from every true hearted Soldier in favor of our Army Now in the South. Although your letter brought rather discouraging News, still I feel as I think every true Patriot ought to feel determined to never give up as long as there is a gleam of hope remaining for the Union as it was & the Constitution as it is. And I cannot for my life think it will ever be settled otherwise. Although I acknowledge things look very gloomy at present. But I hope and trust time will bring things around all square. The Knights of the Golden Circle has long been talked of in this State and I have always been fearful that they would some day rise up against us but I hope our Army will be successful in the Battle now in progress both at Murfeesboro & Vicsburg and thus keep the cowardly K. G. C. at bay. Your ever welcome note of the 30th & 31rst of Dc. came to hand yesterday evening, which found me well, hearty and in fine spirits. And I sincerely hope these few lines may find you all the same. The health is good without any exceptions, not a sick man in the hospital at this post, and has not been for some time. I am not as fleshy as I was last winter (weigh 170) but I enjoy as good health as I ever did in my life. New Years Day I went to Sedalia with Lt Thomas, staid three nights and two days, then returned. I found Frank, Wm. Worth, J. M. Ash, & all the rest of the boys well and hearty. Frank appeared to be well satisfied. I got there late in the evening, but in time to get some of his goodies sent him from home.
Dc 7th I will now try and finish my scribbling. We got a paper this evening which brings cheering news, Murfeesboro & Vicsburg is ours according to its statements. You can hardly imagine how it cheers the boys to hear of such Union Victories: Hurrah for the Union.
This afternoon I went out and set two mink traps on a small creek running close by. While setting one trap I saw a mink slipping from one drift to another. I think there is several along this creek. Coon are plenty. I do not no exactly what they are worth but mink about $1.00 & coon 50 or 60 cts. Tomorrow me & P. C. Holland are going down the creek to set some more traps. He goes with me for company, and I go because I have nothing else much to do. To day Peter wrote a letter to Mother, in which he gave me a very good name. I objected to his praising me up so high but he said I deserved it and he would have his own way. From the way he writes, you would at once suppose I had a huge pair of whiskers & mustache but if you was to see me you would think different. My beard has grown but very little since I left home. I was glad to hear that you had so plenty of money, and if you think you can not take care of it all just send me about five dollars in a letter. I assure you I can find a place to deposit it. There is four months pay due us now, and I do not no to what there will be four months more due us before we get any. Uncle Sam and the boys in camp now owes me over $100.00. Tell me in your next letter if Father has collected any of that money coming to me from the boys killed at Lone Jack. And if he has not got that that is coming to me from Charley Hungleford tell Milton he can have it if he will collect it. Material for writing letters has become so scarce that I have concluded to only write home. If you hear any one complaining about me not writing tell them how it is. And this is not all, I have so little to write about that I think it useless to write so many letters to thee same settlement. This leaves me enjoying good health and hoping it will find you all well and doing well. I will close with love and respect, I remain your affectionate Brother
H. Talbert
P. S. Some of you must be sure and answer Peters letter. And if you do not send me any money send a few postage stamps and oblige your Brother

Bucephalus
In the fall of 1864 Price made his final raid.
He came marching out of Arkansas with his ragged eight brigades.
With Shelby, Fagan, Marmaduke and the Swamp Fox, Thompson, too
He thought he'd take St. Louis from the Union boys in blue.
On his good grey horse, Bucephalus, Price led Missouri's sons
Through Fredericktown to Pilot Knob and grim Fort Davidson.
But there that devil, Ewing, made the rebel soldiers pay,
And Price lost 1500 men before he rode away.
Knights of the Golden Circle come and join the Rebel throng.
We'll raise the banner high once more and give the rebel yell;
Come follow us to victory or march with us through hell.
Battered but not beaten Price was forced to change his plans,
He turned west toward Jeff City thinking there he'd make his stand.
But Pleasonton was after him, so Price kept moving on
Through Boonville, Glasgow, Marshall and on up to Lexington.
He marched toward Independence and he crossed the Little Blue,
Outflanking Blunt and Jennison and Colonel Moonlight, too.
But ahead of him was Curtis and behind was Pleasonton,
And Price was now outnumbered by more than two to one.
Chorus
So boys answer when we call; make our legions strong.
Knights of the Golden Circle come and join the Rebel throng.
We'll raise the banner high once more and give the rebel yell;
Come follow us to victory or march with us through hell.
The days were turning colder and the trees were all aflame
When the last fierce fatal battle just outside of Westport came.
At Brush Creek and at Byram's Ford brave soldiers fought and died,
But the Union's greater numbers finally turned the bloody tide.
So Price limped south toward Texas and now all could sense the fate,
Not only of Missouri but of all the Southern States.
The war would soon be over, all the fighting would be done,
And Lincoln's cause of liberty would finally be won.
Chorus
So boys answer when we call; make our legions strong.

James Boys Treasure Signs and Symbols: Important Reader Information
No Expert
As I’ve stated in the past, I don’t consider myself an expert when it comes to treasure signs and symbols. Although I have passing skills in this regard there are some researchers and treasure hunters out there who could dance circles around me when it comes to this facet of treasure hunting. And I’ll be the first to admit it.
I just received the following comments from a reader who wishes to remain anonymous. What this person has to say about James Boys' treasure signs and symbols is not only intriguing, but underlies the fact that this person is obviously highly experienced in reading and interpreting treasure sign.
Print a Copy
How do I know this? I can tell by this person’s obvious attention to detail and the deliberate and highly literate manner in which he (or she) comments. At the same time certain aspects are left open for your interpretation, which is as it should be.
If you’re at all interested in James Boys or Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) caches or troves I strongly suggest that you commit what this person has to say to memory or print a copy of this page:
“A Good Start…”
“A good start for the adventurous seeker of the James' path of deception would have a close path by starting in the Ouachita National Forest near the Dutch Creek Mountain area, east by northeast of Mena, Arkansas. There are symbols a plenty here with some very positive finds by a knowledgeable researcher.”
“The cross, knife, and arrow are used to throw off the novice seekers as to the actual direction to follow. The position symbol of the leaf is the true path to follow. Right, left, up, or down will determine the direction to a clump or small mound of stones or slate rock.”
“The Years Are Taking Their Toll”
“Certain symbols will be near to fading away. The years are taking their toll on the true symbols. The distance from one point to the next is in a reflection distance, times ten, of the noon day's sun from the leaf side of the tree to ground level in one wide step.”
“The tree signs are best visible in the late Fall of the seasons. Again, the years have taken their toll on the true carved symbols which were first set at eye level to an average human's height. The tree symbols will only rise higher up on the tree but will never change sides.”
“The Most Positive Indication”
“In the past several years the stone markers have been renewed (altered? J.R.) to a lesser detection view, but they are the most positive indication of that which many seek. Using a metal detector is, in some areas, forbidden.”
“However, a hand-held magnetic compass would serve an equal purpose without being detected by onlookers. That is what was used by the first guardians. Once again, metal detectors are better, but will alert many to one's activity.”
There you have it. I’ll leave the rest to you.
Good hunting.

CHEROKEE NATION DECLARATION OF CAUSES; 1861
Declaration by the People of the Cherokee Nation of the Causes
Which Have Impelled Them to Unite Their Fortunes With Those
of the Confederate States of America.
"When circumstances beyond their control compel one people to sever
the ties which have long existed between them and another state or
confederacy, and to contract new alliances and establish new
relations for the security of their rights and liberties, it is fit
that they should publicly declare the reasons by which their action
is justified.
The Cherokee people had its origin in the South; its institutions are
similar to those of the Southern States, and their interests
identical with theirs. Long since it accepted the protection of the
United States of America, contracted with them treaties of alliance
and friendship, and allowed themselves to be to a great extent
governed by their laws.
In peace and war they have been faithful to their engagements with
the United States. With much of hardship and injustice to complain
of, they resorted to no other means than solicitation and argument to
obtain redress. Loyal and obedient to the laws and the stipulations
of their treaties, they served under the flag of the United States,
shared the common dangers, and were entitled to a share in the common
glory, to gain which their blood was freely shed on the battlefield.
When the dissensions between the Southern and Northern States
culminated in a separation of State after State from the Union they
watched the progress of events with anxiety and consternation. While
their institutions and the contiguity of their territory to the
States of Arkansas, Texas, and Missouri made the cause of the
seceding States necessarily their own cause, their treaties had been
made with the United States, and they felt the utmost reluctance even
in appearance to violate their engagements or set at naught the
obligations of good faith.
Conscious that they were a people few in numbers compared with either
of the contending parties, and that their country might with no
considerable force be easily overrun and devastated and desolation
and ruin be the result if they took up arms for either side, their
authorities determined that no other course was consistent with the
dictates of prudence or could secure the safety of their people and
immunity from the horrors of a war waged by an invading enemy than a
strict neutrality, and in this decision they were sustained by a
majority of the nation.
That policy was accordingly adopted and faithfully adhered to. Early
in the month of June of the present year the authorities of the
nation declined to enter into negotiations for an alliance with the
Confederate States, and protested against the occupation of the
Cherokee country by their troops, or any other violation of their
neutrality. No act was allowed that could be construed by the United
States to be a violation of the faith of treaties.
But Providence rules the destinies of nations, and events, by
inexorable necessity, overrule human resolutions. The number of the
Confederate States has increased to eleven, and their Government is
firmly established and consolidated. Maintaining in the field an army
of 200,000 men, the war became for them but a succession of
victories. Disclaiming any intention to invade the Northern States,
they sought only to repel invaders from their own soil and to secure
the right of governing themselves. They claimed only the privilege
asserted by the Declaration of American Independence, and on which
the right of the Northern States themselves to self-government is
founded, of altering their form of government when it became no
longer tolerable and establishing new forms for the security of their
liberties.
Throughout the Confederate States we saw this great revolution
effected without violence or the suspension of the laws or the
closing of the courts. The military power was nowhere placed above
the civil authorities. None were seized and imprisoned at the mandate
of arbitrary power. All division among the people disappeared, and
the determination became unanimous that there should never again be
any union with the Northern States. Almost as one man all who were
able to bear arms rushed to the defense of an invaded country, and
nowhere has it been found necessary to compel men to serve or to
enlist mercenaries by the offer of extraordinary bounties.
But in the Northern States the Cherokee people saw with alarm a
violated Constitution, all civil liberty put in peril, and all the
rules of civilized warfare and the dictates of common humanity and
decency unhesitatingly disregarded. In States which still adhered to
the Union a military despotism has displaced the civil power and the
laws became silent amid arms. Free speech and almost free thought
became a crime. The right to the writ of habeas corpus, guaranteed by
the Constitution, disappeared at the nod of a Secretary of State or a
general of the lowest grade. The mandate of the Chief Justice of the
Supreme Court was set at naught by the military power, and this
outrage on common right approved by a President sworn to support the
Constitution. War on the largest scale was waged, and the immense
bodies of troops called into the field in the absence of any law
warranting it under the pretense of suppressing unlawful combination
of men. The humanities of war, which even barbarians respect, were no
longer thought worthy to be observed. Foreign mercenaries and the
scum of cities and the inmates of prisons were enlisted and organized
into regiments and brigades and sent into Southern States to aid in
subjugating a people struggling for freedom, to burn, to plunder, and
to commit the basest of outrages on women; while the heels of armed
tyranny trod upon the necks of Maryland and Missouri, and men of the
highest character and position were incarcerated upon suspicion and
without process of law in jails, in forts, and in prison-ships, and
even women were imprisoned by the arbitrary order of a President and
Cabinet ministers; while the press ceased to be free, the publication
of newspapers was suspended and their issues seized and destroyed;
the officers and men taken prisoners in battle were allowed to remain
in captivity by the refusal of their Government to consent to an
exchange of prisoners; as they had left their dead on more than one
field of battle that had witnessed their defeat to be buried and
their wounded to be cared for by Southern hands.
Whatever causes the Cherokee people may have had in the past, to
complain of some of the Southern States, they cannot but feel that
their interests and their destiny are inseparably connected with
those of the South. The war now raging is a war of Northern cupidity
and fanaticism against the institution of African servitude; against
the commercial freedom of the South, and against the political
freedom of the States, and its objects are to annihilate the
sovereignty of those States and utterly change the nature of the
General Government.
The Cherokee people and their neighbors were warned before the war
commenced that the first object of the party which now holds the
powers of government of the United States would be to annul the
institution of slavery in the whole Indian country, and make it what
they term free territory and after a time a free State; and they have
been also warned by the fate which has befallen those of their race
in Kansas, Nebraska, and Oregon that at no distant day they too would
be compelled to surrender their country at the demand of Northern
rapacity, and be content with an extinct nationality, and with
reserves of limited extent for individuals, of which their people
would soon be despoiled by speculators, if not plundered
unscrupulously by the State.
Urged by these considerations, the Cherokees, long divided in
opinion, became unanimous, and like their brethren, the Creeks,
Seminoles, Choctaws, and Chickasaws, determined, by the undivided
voice of a General Convention of all the people, held at Tahlequah,
on the 21st day of August, in the present year, to make common cause
with the South and share its fortunes.
In now carrying this resolution into effect and consummating a treaty
of alliance and friendship with the Confederate States of America the
Cherokee people declares that it has been faithful and loyal to is
engagements with the United States until, by placing its safety and
even its national existence in imminent peril, those States have
released them from those engagements.
Menaced by a great danger, they exercise the inalienable right of
self-defense, and declare themselves a free people, independent of
the Northern States of America, and at war with them by their own
act. Obeying the dictates of prudence and providing for the general
safety and welfare, confident of the rectitude of their intentions
and true to the obligations of duty and honor, they accept the issue
thus forced upon them, unite their fortunes now and forever with
those of the Confederate States, and take up arms for the common
cause, and with entire confidence in the justice of that cause and
with a firm reliance upon Divine Providence, will resolutely abide
the consequences. "
